QOTD (quote of the day)
It is hardly as if women leaders do not wield real power in India. 255 Lok Sabha seats have been won in the 2009 elections by parties where women are the absolute and unchallenged leaders. In spite of this, we have seen no change in the number of women Parliamentarians. The idea of reserving seats for a group is based on the pectation that when they come to power, they will use it to help other less fortunate members of the group. Clearly that expectation has been definitively belied.

SOTD (software of the day :P)
VideoCacheView for windows
After watching a video in a Web site, you may want to save the video file into your local disk for playing it offline in the future. If the video file is stored in your browser’s cache, this utility can help you to extract the video file from the cache and save it for watching it in the future.
It automatically scans the entire cache of Internet Explorer and Mozilla-based Web browsers (Including Firefox) and finds all video files that are currently stored in it. It allows you to easily copy the cached video files into another folder for playing/watching them in the future.

the very-recently posted link on “Open XML” is not the open office ODF that i confused it for but the MIscrosoft’s OOXML
Here’s a better link –
India to vote against Microsoft’s OXML, against wishes of IT cos
wonder how better. if the previous one took a Microsoft’s perspective (okay recent troubles in management is no excuse) this one only talks about two other companies that would prefer Microsoft’s OOXML. what about all the thousand small companies and future innovators and the academia and and the general public, the future users. Sad.
a few ppl might jump in and mention the TOI quality showing. it’s not that. what’s CNET doing. it’s not even about that. If information is power, what’s the validation for it?
answering the few “potential” statements- other media players won’t even probably give a damn. they’ll probably have news tomo of the prime minister celebrating holi and that in tamil nadu there was joy all over. haha. it’ll never cover this. probably not even when OOXML is voted out, or in .
okay, fine. what really matters? ( in the universal namespace 😉
worth a thought. 🙂

Look where. look out.
today, a silent yet eventful Friday. happens to be holi. and several other festivals co-incidentally. also, it rained here. lightly.
the day started with a rather “spontaneous” march to the Director’s house at 1 am in the morning – about 150 ppl walking for a cause – “Secure basic needs of living”. Anyway, let’s see if http://thenitknumbskulls.wordpress.com/ will cover it. or maybe someone else. (btw, a bloggers meet being planned. let’s see how it does if it happens)
lots of news going around. several items came up today.
From Taslima to Tibet, India proves Chicken – Jug Suraiya
Indian government’s failure to protect Indian workers – forced Indian laborers at US
and India still thumbs-down to Open XML
whatt ? hah. yea. what thou say?
yea, long time since last post. will comment on the dynamics of the frequency of posting and many other things later. currently “wiser” than 1-post-per-day.
reminder to talk about triviality of things, water conservation advice, habbits on keyboard, usability of gadgets. bugs in software, and maybe umbrella shopping!!
