2010 – Tweet-by-Tweet!

January 21, 2011

Taking inspiration from Ramesh Srivats’ post , here’s a snapshot what my mind coughed up on twitter in 2010 –

JANUARY  –

How about a “Keep as unread” option for missed calls on the phone. Also a “Last called time” for each contact

It is irrational to believe that being rational is right

FEBRUARY  –

your solution is as weak as your weakest assumption..

My name is (guldu) Khan!

Smart and hard working is a deadly combination of personal qualities, but rarely seen together. Plain hard work beats plain smartness anyday

MARCH –

Maybe Murphy _is_ God.

speak your mind. and stay in a place where it doesn’t hurt to do it.

Resilience is the secret of the victorious.

Information overflow is better than information underflow

God lives in the stomach. look no further!

APRIL –

There’s always space for one more quality player. Gmail, Facebook, Iphone,. None were the first to do what they do..

eat to celebrate. celebrate to eat.

It’s fine to make an irrational decision, as long as there is no illusion that it is rational

MAY –

Once people think they know you, they don’t look beyond.

Quality is a culture.

you can’t really argue much with the compiler, can you?

JUNE –

Productivity kills creativity

‘Self-motivated’ is a myth.

JULY –

clear. concise. complete. #meetings_should_be

Amber is not green!! #traffic_rules_for_dummies

AUGUST –

This is what I want. This is the requirement. You can’t change the requirement.. You have to change the product!

short term scheduling. medium term scheduling. long term scheduling. Where should I spend more time?

What you sow so shall you reap; so also what you reap so shall you sow

SEPTEMBER –

Home is where sweet saaru-anna is!

NOVEMBER –

Psychology is harder than Technology.

can I claim life insurance that I don’t “have a life”! 😛

What does time come from?

Value of lost things

January 24, 2010

The value of anything is said to be perceived better on its loss.

True, as most of us would have experienced with one thing or the other.

Logically, is there a solution to this?

How enjoyable the world would be, if only!

rhythm of life

January 20, 2010

Think are so much easier to make happen when its a habit.

Have you noticed that often when you break a habbit, it suddenly seems so much more difficult to carry out, though you had easily and routinely performed the activity earlier.

To do things on time is a habbit. Not doing it on time is also a habbit.

Check your twitter timeline, you blog post frequency. Things done regularly get done, and the rest simply get ignored though there might have been bandwidth to do it.

So. what?

Are you late for the daily morning office cab everyday?

Do you read the newspaper everyday?

Are you late for lunch with your colleagues everyday?

Are you late in your project deliverables every time?

Are you late in coming back home from office regularly?

Do you miss brushing you teeth in the night often?

Do your clear your google reader backlog everyday?

After all, what an inspirational book (or a how-to-lose-weight or a how-to-make-money ) do is to provide guidelines.

If it doesn’t get done, it doesn’t get done.

reblog

January 10, 2010

Giving life to an old and abandoned blog is called reblogging.

I thought about independently and wished to coin this new term today, but alas, found that Raiedzall had already done it 6 months ago here.

Good! If not for the free and wide internet, wouldn’t many invention efforts be duplicated?

How many man years would have been spent on re-inventing the wheel?

and how much more power given to the centralized repositories of knowledge ?

The internet is the greatest accelerator of mankind’s progress.

I hope I am at least the first one to make this quote 😉

More thoughts –

Blog posts get written easily when you sit down to write them and start

Maybe i’ll try to write every wednesday and sunday.

QOTD and SOTD

June 16, 2009

QOTD (quote of the day)

It is hardly as if women leaders do not wield real power in India. 255 Lok Sabha seats have been won in the 2009 elections by parties where women are the absolute and unchallenged leaders. In spite of this, we have seen no change in the number of women Parliamentarians. The idea of reserving seats for a group is based on the pectation that when they come to power, they will use it to help other less fortunate members of the group. Clearly that expectation has been definitively belied.

– Santosh Desai writes in “Gender Reservations” under City City Bang Bang, Times of India, Bangalore, Page 8, June 15th 2009.

SOTD (software of the day :P)

VideoCacheView for windows
After watching a video in a Web site, you may want to save the video file into your local disk for playing it offline in the future. If the video file is stored in your browser’s cache, this utility can help you to extract the video file from the cache and save it for watching it in the future.
It automatically scans the entire cache of Internet Explorer and Mozilla-based Web browsers (Including Firefox) and finds all video files that are currently stored in it. It allows you to easily copy the cached video files into another folder for playing/watching them in the future.

Emergency contact numbers of family members

June 6, 2009

Here, I am talking NOT about 112/108/911 kind-of emergency, but instead about the first point of personal contact like family or friends.

Is there a standard protocol to save emergency contact numbers in mobile phones?

How about SpeedDial 2 being used for the emergency number? (Like SpeedDial 1 is reserved for voicemail. )

Enforcing end users to set it manually, is of-course not a good solution, and would only work with people who are aware and enthusiastic.

However, there is scope for this to be done in the network end, if the required no is taken during subscriber registration.

The user, signing up for the connection, provides the next-to-kin/family/friend emergency contact number and that is stored in the network —> using SpeedDial 2 (press and hold button 2) —> phone sends request to the network to connect to the emergency family member number provided by the subscriber —> and the call is thus routed beyond.

There is also scope for mulitple numbers to be defined and fallback in case of non-availability of the primary emergency phone no, right?

What do u think? (there’s always the comments section for feedback 🙂

PS: another use-case : If u find someone’s lost phone, what number in there do u try to contact? the first number in the phonebook? how relevant would that be to the situation? you’ll look for “Home” ? (that’s smart, isn’t it :P) isn’t there a need to find his/her “primary” alternate contact number..
